Radio Peace Fetes Deprived Children at Christmas

Over three hundred Children from five deprived communities in the Central Region had a good time when Radio Peace threw a Christmas party for them on December 21, 2018 at the premises of the radio station in Winneba. The Children, some who were physically challenged, came from Efutu Akosua Village, Efutu Ateitu, Efutu Nsuekyir, Gomoa Dabanyin and Osubonpayin.

The children adorned in festive outfits were treated to fun-filled activities for almost four hours. They danced, played various musical games, engaged in poetry and Bible quote recitals and dancing competition. The children also had enough to eat. These activities brought cheer and goodwill to all the children.

The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Ato Bortse, a local football coach in Winneba, acknowledged the efforts of Radio Peace and cautioned the children to be of good behaviour towards their parents and the elderly. He further encouraged them: “Never be afraid to attempt new things. Always have faith and ‘the can-do spirit’ and you will never fail. Always aim high.”

On her part, the Adviser to Radio Peace and the initiator of the Christmas Party, Mrs. Jane Ghartey-Tagoe also known as Ekuwa Samba was overwhelmed with excitement. She was pleased with a very well organised party and acknowledged the staff of Radio Peace for all the effort they put into the organisation of the party. She also thanked the communities served by Radio Peace for their generous contribution: “My very sincere thanks goes to the community. They made this party possible. Their contributions of bags of rice, bottles of oil, bottles of soft drinks, charcoal among others are very much appreciated and we look forward to a similar gesture next year.”

The children were beside themselves with so much excitement. A young girl from Osubonpanyin summed it all up: “Today has been the best day of my life and may God bless Radio Peace.” With a smile she added: “I hope I will be invited again next year.”

Radio Peace has been organising Christmas parties for deprived children for the past ten years and each year children are invited from different communities. So we can look forward to another Christmas party in 2019 with children coming from other communities.
